Dance – Cultural Association

"In Ancient Greece dance was regarded as the gift of the gods to the people. The quality characteristics of dance, such as measure and rhythm, were also qualitative characteristics of the gods."

The formation of The Dance Petritis was made in November 2011. It is a mixed dance and consisted of 3 sections: the small children's section, the large children's section and the teen department. The adult section was reconstituted in January 2020.

The dance of Petriti participates: in the events of the Cultural Association Of Petriti, as in the festival for the celebration of Panagia Vlaherne, in Varkarola etc. , at events of other clubs in Corfu such as the Folkestone Folklore Festival, The Children's Meeting of Lefkimi, Sinia, Round and outside Corfu, such as in Tripoli in the summer of 2014 and karaiskakeia of Karditsa in the summer of 2017. It is worth mentioning that for the 1st time in 2019 our large children's section participated in Dancing Together in St. Matthew, the teen section of Together Dancing in Benitses, the large & teenage section at an event organized over the last 5 years for the Smile of the Child in Corfu with excellent appearance.

The creation of the dance is for us a way to maintain our folk tradition and to motivate young people to be active, so as to ensure the continuity of our national heritage. In the dance departments of the Cultural Association Petriti, dances are taught from all parts of Greece.
